‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ and ‘Harriet the Spy’ star Michelle Trachtenberg dies at 39 NEW YORK

(New York)Michelle Trachtenberg, a former child actor who appeared in the hit 1996 film “Harriet the Spy” and later co-starred in two humorous millennial-era TV shows — “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Gossip Girl,” has died. She was 39.

Officers found Trachtenberg

“unconscious and unresponsive” when she responded to a 911 call just after 8 a.m. in the 51-story luxury apartment tower in Manhattan’s Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood, according to a New York Police Department statement.

Police said no foul play is suspected and the New York medical examiner is investigating the cause of death. Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene.

Gary Mantoush said in a statement Wednesday, “The family asks for privacy for their loss.”. Michelle began playing Nona Mecklenburg on Nickelodeon’s “The Adventures of Pete & Pete” from 1994 to 1996 when she was 8 years old and later starred opposite Matthew Broderick in the film adaptations of “Harriet the Spy” and “Inspector Gazette.”

“Trachtenberg seems real because she’s a real girl. Everyone can relate to her,” Nickelodeon Movies president Debbie Beese said in 1996. In 2000, Trachtenberg joined the cast of “Buffy,” playing Dawn Summers, the younger sister of the title character played by Sarah Michelle Gellar, from 2000 to 2003.

For speaking out against Joss Whedon in 2021 after allegations of abuse against the show’s creator of “Buffy” were raised. “I’m so dared to post this again now as a 35-year-old woman,” she wrote on social media, citing “his inappropriate behavior” as a teen actress.

She received a Daytime Emmy nomination for hosting Discovery’s “Truth or Scare.” In 2001. Trachtenberg had recurring roles on “Six Feet Under,” “Weeds,” and “Gossip Girl,” where she played the gang’s scheming enemy, Georgina Sparks.
