
Due to the increase of the prize pool to $110 million, the women’s national football team will win $1.5-1.87 million merely for participating in the group stage of the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
The prize fund for the previous Women’s World Cup in France in 2019 was $30 million. The winning U.S. team received $4 million, while the eight teams that lost in the group stage received $750,000 each.
The prize money for the competing teams at the 2023 Women’s World Cup will grow by 100–150% as a result of the prize pool being tripled. Vietnam is assured of receiving between $1.5 million and $1.875 million even if they fail to advance past the group stage of this year’s competition.
Vietnam is making its debut appearance in the Women’s World Cup. They are grouped with the reigning champions, the United States.
In addition to the prize money, FIFA reportedly spent almost $42 million getting the competing teams ready. In the 2019 competition, this amount was $20 million.
Since there will be 32 countries competing in the 2023 Women’s World Cup, there has been a large rise in the bonus. Additionally, a lot of groups and people have worked to reduce the bonus difference between the Women’s and Men’s World Cups.
FIFA distributed $440 million to the 32 teams who competed in the 2022 World Cup, with victor Argentina and runner-up France receiving $42 million and $30 million, respectively.
Gianni Infantino, the president of FIFA, stated that fewer broadcasters had expressed interest in the women’s tournament than the men’s, and that viewership for the women’s matches was 20–50% lower.
“Women deserve much, much more than that, and we are there to fight for them and with them,” Infantino said.
By 2027, the FIFA President wants to have equal World Cup bonuses for men and women. The prize for the 2022 World Cup is already $440 million, and there will be 48 nations competing in the 2026 edition, which makes this a challenging undertaking.
